Big Country Raw

Big Country Raw is a family-owned pet food company in Smithville, Ontario, founded by Rob and Geraldine Brouwer. It grew out of their dog-breeding hobby, where they raised German Shorthaired Pointers and Bernese Mountain Dogs under the Big Country Kennels name. The Brouwers began feeding raw to their own dogs and puppies, and new puppy owners asked where they could buy the same food. That demand led the couple to open Big Country Raw as a business in 2012. The company produces all of its raw pet food in Smithville and has become a leader in Canada's frozen raw category. Its range includes complete and balanced frozen raw meals, gently cooked options, supplements, and treats for both dogs and cats. Big Country Raw was named Small Business of the Year in 2017 and appeared on The Globe and Mail's ranking of Canada's top growing companies. Now operating as Big Country Pet Co., it began expanding distribution into the United States in 2026.
